The Union Flag, also known as the Union Jack, is the flag of the United Kingdom. Today we're going to talk about some facts about the Union Jack.

1. The flag consists of three other flags

The Union Flag is the flag of Great Britain. Its name comes from combining the crosses of three countries from the United Kingdom. These countries are England and Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

2. The Union Jack is not its name

We most likely call or know the flag the Union Jack, which may not be the correct name for it. The name Union Jack is used only when the flag is flying at sea. On land, the flag is traditionally known as the Union Flag. Myths revolve around this word. Those who do not refer to the flag as the United Nations flag think its proper name is Union, Jack. The term has been used by British admirals since the beginning. In 1902, it was officially announced that either name could be used. So, whatever you call it, you're right.

3. The flag is to be flown at sea

When the flag was originally designed by King James I, it was only flown at sea. Civilian and military ships from England and Scotland pilot them on their ships. Even before the Royal Decree was passed, the Army had raised its flag. Following the Act of Union in 1707, the flag gained legal status as the ensign of the newly formed Kingdom of Great Britain. It was later adopted by the Army in 1707, the only difference being that the blue tone on the land flag was similar to the blue on the Scottish flag.

4. The blue shade of the flag has changed

The shade of blue on the Union Jack has changed over time. The current Confederate flag is dark navy, also known as Pantone 280. The same shade is used as the blue ensign of the Royal Navy Blue Squadron. Based on their durability, these shades are used on sea flags. In 2003, the Scottish Parliament recommended changing the Scottish flag to a lighter royal blue, also known as Pantone 300. Compared to the current flag, the coat of arms of the old Confederate flag was cerulean.

5. There is no real code of conduct around the flag

Most countries have codes of conduct that guide the use of national flags. You won't find flags in clothing or people's homes. Well, the Union Jack has no code of conduct. The flag may be reproduced in its original form on merchandise, printed materials and other memorabilia. The Union Jack flag also has no specific way of folding. All you need to do is fold it neatly for your next use.
