How To Design A Flag

A good flag is simple, meaningful and easy to recognize, but designing a good flag is not so easy. Today we will learn how to design a good flag.

1. Determine the basic layout

Choose the shape of the flag. Most flags are rectangular or square. Your flag doesn't have to be rectangular, but you should stick to simple shapes that are easy to see from a distance.

Choose a simple but memorable design. Some of the most common flag designs are two-color, three-color, and quarter-color, or use stripes, panels, and borders. The flag can also be a solid color with a unique symbol in the center.

Use 2 to 3 colors. As a general rule, you should only use 2 to 3 colors in your flag design. If you use more, they can be hard to tell apart. The most common colors on flags are black, blue, green, red, white and yellow. You can use light and dark colors to create contrast. Associated colors can be useful, for example, to use colors that are next to each other on the color wheel, but allow them to blend together. Free and unique colors work better. Depending on the pitch, you might want to saturate it a lot, or just a little bit.

2. Add Symbolism

Decide what you want your flag to represent. When designing a flag, it is important to choose colors and images that symbolize the organization or place the flag to represent. For example, you might be designing a flag for a miniature country, fictional land, club, organization or charity. Keep this in mind as you add symbolism to your flag. For example, if you're creating a flag for a fishing club, you might want to use a fishing rod, boat, or fish as symbols. Blue can also be used to represent water. Add images. Images and symbols can be used to help differentiate your flag from other flags and to convey the purpose or meaning behind the flag. The image of an eagle can symbolize freedom or power, a star can represent divinity or honor, and a circle can represent the sun.

3. Keep it simple

No lettering on the flag. No lettering is required on the flag. The colors and symbols on the flag should be sufficient to identify what the flag represents. The font is also difficult to read from a distance and will look backward if viewed from the opposite side. However, you can break this rule and still have a great flag. Flags are usually hung high enough to fly in the wind. As a result, letters of any type will be difficult to read. Decide on a design that is easy to draw. The best flag designs are those that are easy to draw. Do not include complex seals or emblems on your flag. This will make it difficult to replicate.
