Many people will hang some flags at home as decoration. At the same time, when hanging flags, we will also need to install flagpoles. Today we will talk about some mistakes to avoid when installing flagpoles.
1. Wrong location
Getting a flagpole too close to trees, buildings, and power lines can damage all of these items, especially in windy areas. Homeowners also need to consider the conditions around the bottom of the pole. A moving flagpole can uproot plants and disrupt the landscape around its base.
2. Wrong pole
One of the most important considerations is the strength of the flagpole. If it is placed in an open area, it will be affected by strong winds. Homeowners want a sturdy, all-in-one design. If there are trees and buildings around, the wind will be partially blocked, leaving more room for a retractable or two-piece flagpole.
3. Shaky base
To keep the flagpole upright, it is not enough to just drill a hole in the ground and insert the flagpole. The flagpole needs to be filled with cement deep and wide enough to form a large block when fastened. This is to prevent the pole from tipping over. A good rule of thumb is to dig a hole about four times the diameter of the rod.
4. Damaged flagpole
Before the pole stands up, it can easily get scratched or dented, or the loops and fasteners can be crushed or bent. The flagpole should remain wrapped in its packaging until you are ready to lift it. You should arrange for final installation as soon as possible after you receive the flagpole to avoid leaving it on the ground.
5. Forgotten parts
The flagpole usually isn’t just one piece. Instead, there may be a collar and an array of fastenings and extension pieces used for different models. Usually, these pieces need to be assembled before setting the flagpole in the hole, so it is important to complete these steps in the right order.
